PEMBROKES namesake warship takes a starring role in a national television programme with an audience of ten million.

The minehunter, HMS Pembroke (pictured), features heavily in 'Dream Makers, which will be screened on the Living IV cable channel later this month.

Programme makers make a dream come true for 14-year-old Peter Nelson, whose ambition is to become a Navy chef.

The crew of Portsmouth-based HMS Pembroke offered their services, and under the guidance of Leading Chef David Bevington, Peter cooks up a two-course meal on board for senior officers and programme presenter Emma Forbes.

Peter, from Portsmouth, who has spina bifida and was a victim of school bullying, was nominated for the programme by his mother Elizabeth. Lieutenant Olly Alexander, Pembrokes second in command, said the ships staff were delighted to help out.

We were pleased to help Peters dream come true, and we are sure he has what it takes to become a Navy chef. His food went down a treat with the officers. He gave us all a memorable day.

HMS Pembroke has just returned from a two-month deployment to the Baltic, where she cleared dozens of mines off Estonia. In January she heads for Scotland for a seven-week training exercise.

Her television appearance is on December 22nd at 8.30 pm and her next visit to Pembrokeshire is due in early March. PICTURE: Royal Navy.
