Tenby 2 Merlins Bridge 0
Tenby moved to top position in Division One with a comfortable win over Merlins Bridge over the weekend. The Seasiders are now two points clear of Hakin although the current league champions do have four games in hand over Deryn Brace and Steve Maytums side.
It appears that Tenby are finally putting their game together after a couple of seasons where other factors took priority and their talented group of players are playing attractive, dynamic football and Saturday was no exception.
The Bridge played their part in the game but apart from Kevin Phillips and Peter Jones who both went close, they were unable to break down the home defence on enough occasions to cause Dewi Davies any real problems.
In fact, apart from these chances for the Wizards, Tenbys skipper was rarely called into action.
In contrast, Tenby went close on a number of occasions with Brace and Anthony Griffiths leading the way. They took the lead as early as the eighth minute as a good run by James Brown down the left led to a cross being put into the box and Gavin Scotcher was on hand to slam the ball past Gary Thomas.
More chances then fell to Brace, who went wide with a header and Ben Brooks who hit the ball over the bar after a free kick by Ryan Lawrence. All of this pressure was bound to tell and Tenby finally grabbed their second, although it had a hint of offside about it, when Brace provided a ball through for Dave Merryck, who toe poked the ball home.
With their heads up, Tenby attacked in waves as Scotcher went close a couple of times but hit wide and Griffiths had a powerful header cleared off the line.
It proved to be the last chance that the home team had but stalwart Norman Hanlon wasnt complaining:
We deserved the win, its another three points, were playing well, are proving hard to beat and looking for a top six place.
