Coveted places in the Glamorgan and Wales Cricket Acadamy have been awarded to local schoolboys rated outstanding prospects.
The two - both all-rounders, who are said to be naturally gifted with immense potential - are 16-year-old Rhidian Harries, Blaenffos, who is a pupil at Ysgol Y Preseli, Crymych, and Rhun Wilson (15), Llanfihangel-ar-Arth, a pupil of Ysgol Dyffryn Teifi, Llandysul. Both have already achieved representative honours at national level in playing for their country and the West of England teams.
At club level, Rhun has ties with both Llanybydder and Bronwydd. Most of his cricket he played with the latter over the past summer. Rhidian has played the senior club game for Crymych and Whitland in the Pembrokeshire championship.
Last summer he was on regular duty for the South Wales Cricket Association's first division strugglers Ammanford - his best innings for them as he impressed all in his new surrounds with his mature approach to the game for one so young being the 79 not out he registered against Pontarddulais.
His best for the Wales schools was a polished 138 not out against Worcester at Malvern. Rhun and Rhidian are the first in west Wales to attain prestigious Acadamy places and by virtue of this they are assured of the very best fine tuning Welsh cricket has to offer with the coaching clinics, taking place at Glamorgan's Sophia Gard-ens, Cardiff, HQ every Sunday during the close season.
