Pembrokeshire Harriers' 2004 season finished with two fine performances from the Junior and Colts teams.
In the Welsh Junior Plate Final (under 13 - under 20) at Aberdare the Harriers came within a whisker of winning back the trophy from Neath Harriers.
The two clubs dominated the tournament, both scoring over a thousand points, far ahead of the other six teams, which included Brecon, Menai and Colwyn Bay.
Throughout the afternoon the Harriers put in fine performances across the whole range of events, but a few gaps on the day on the under 20 team-sheet meant that Neath were just able to hold on to the plate.
It was a similar story in the Gerald Codd Memorial Trophy (for under 11 - under 15 athletes), but this time it was Carmarthen Harriers who prevented the Harriers reclaiming the trophy they won in 2002.
The meeting was scheduled for the Harriers' new track at Haverfordwest but, although it is now open and being used for training, the cost of providing all the equipment necessary for an athletics meeting (hurdles, high-jump, beds etc.) means that the club is still not in a position to host such competitions, despite the generosity of some local companies and organisations.
The last competition of the season was the Welsh Inter-Regional competition at Brecon. The following Harriers were in the victorious West Wales team: Andrew Alvey, Michael Alvey, Jamie Fenaroli, Chris Rice, Geraint Peachment, Adam Williams, Chad Monk, Vicky Lloyd, Gemma Leahy, Rachel Canning and Amy Rowlands, who set a championship-best performance in the 1K Walk.
Attention now turns to the cross-country season, with the first meeting of the Gwent League at Newbridge Fields, Bridgend on Sunday, October 10th.
