NARBERTH Food Club held a charity dinner recently, in aid of the RNLI's Pembrokeshire Appeal for Tenby Lifeboat Station.

The glittering function, which took place at the Plas Hyfred Hotel, was attended by 65 people, including Councillor Henry Langen, mayor of Narberth, and a food festival committee member from Ludlow.

Diners were entertained by singer Elaina Hoss, with keyboard accompaniment by Clive. Deryc Rees, from Future Farmers of Wales, proved to be a most humorous guest speaker.

After enjoying a three-course meal, cooked by resident chef Paul Smith with assistance from the 2004 Ludlow Young Chef of the Year, members and their guests contributed generously to a sealed envelope raffle, tempted by a wide range of prizes.

This was the second event to be organised by the Food Club, which was founded last year.

The occasion formed part of Narberth's sixth food festival, which proved popular with both locals and visitors. The Queen's Hall and a large marquee on the Town Moor were venues for children's and adults' workshops, cookery demonstrations and music, while local businesses also hosted events, and street entertainers added to the ambience.

On Wednesday, Jackie Palit, food club secretary and founder of the food festival, and club treasurer Peter Preece, presented the magnificent sum of £568.15 to the RNLI.

Jennie McIntosh, secretary of the Tenby Lifeboat Station Appeal; David Gibbs, Narberth lifeboat branch chairman, and Barbara Wilson, branch secretary, expressed their thanks and presented certificates of appreciation to the club.

The Tenby Lifeboat Station Appeal now has nearly £13,000 towards its £20,000 target, and local individuals and groups, including a few pubs, are helping to boost the total with a variety of different fundraising ideas.
