DEAR EDITOR, - The lack of adequate public car parking facilities in Haverfordwest has been highlighted previously, but no plan seems to exist to address this problem in the long term.
Even on a quiet weekday in October, I found every official car park full, as motorists drove slowly around awaiting for a vacancy to arise. This situation will become worse during the Christmas period, and when visitors arrive.
The problem is compounded by council staff, who cannot park at County Hall, but have to find spaces in existing car parks, where their vehicles are parked all day.
To free up town centre parking spaces, a park and ride facility should be made available for the use of council staff, and other day workers in Haverfordwest.
The council could supply the buses for this, either free or for a nominal charge. If staff are receiving special parking concessions, this must lose the council revenue, as these parking places would be paid for by shoppers and tourists etc.
Sites to be considered for a park and ride could be at Withybush and Merlins Bridge. The rugby club car park seems to be under-used during the week so perhaps they would appreciate some extra revenue.
