CD review: The Avenue
I'm a firm believer that music reflects the zeit-geist of the times. Despite political tightrope walking between (Middle) East and West, climate turmoil and the explosion of hermaphrodite polar bears in the Barents Sea, there are a slew of rappers extolling the virtues of thuggery and nice boys with guitars singing pretty songs about embryonic feelings.
Nothing particularly bad in either, it just reflects that the sign of the times is escapism into surface image. After the nearly-was of mass demonstration, we returned to our TV sets and shopping malls.
'Welcome to our Generation' sing The Avenue - well, ok, you've invited me, so what do you have to say? A tot of 'Cheap American Wine'?
Ah, so we're drinking to forget, sleeping all day and reminiscing with our loins.
Sorry lads, nothing against your pretty songs, but right now my teeth are gritted and the bright morning sun is in my eyes.
