J. J. Morris report an increased entry of calves forward at Cardigan Mart on Monday, November 8th.

The vast majority were Friesian and Holstein bulls, which met a very poor demand, as calf numbers increase, and their confimation and size reduces.

However, the reduction of rearing calves on offer, met a very brisk trade, with farmers looking for the better types presented.

Quotations:

Top Belgian Blue calf £210 for Griffiths, Penlan, Eglwyswrw, who also had a Belgian Blue heifer at £100. Penrhonw Farms, Llanpumpsaint achieved £180 and £100 for a Belgian Blue bull and heifer.

Top price heifer calf was £120 for a Limousin from Thomas, Graig, Hebron who also sold the top price Hereford bull at £154. Hereford heifers to £52, Simmental heifers to £62.

Two Aberdeen Angus bulls born July 2004 made £220 from George, Wernddu, Eglwyswrw.
