Rugby division five (west) St Clears 5 Pembroke 45
Having assured themselves of promotion the previous Saturday at home to Furnace, Pembroke made the midweek journey to St Clears and secured the section silverware with a convincing win.
They were 31-0 ahead at half time and claimed seven tries in all to put a smile on the face of coach Ossie Boswell, who deserves great credit for his work at Crickmarren with a group of relatively young players who could serve the Scarlets well for years to come.
They served notice of their intent from the outset as centre Simon Cole scored their first try after the forwards had done the spade work with a series of recycling.
Veterans Sandy Allen and Neil Humphreys led the way, scrum half Vyv Davies set his backs in motion and when Cole was released by outside half Phil Williams he stepped inside to score at the posts. Williams added the extra points.
Skipper Richard Morris, Sean Beynon and Richard Mason all worked hard in the close exchanges and there was quality lineout possession from Owain Johns and Dai Beynon.
Humphreys and Steve Dyde attacked as a trio, with Geraint Lewis ever-ready to join the fray from full back alongside Cole, Mark Williams, Huw Purser and Gareth Lewis.
As a result, tries came at regular intervals with winger 'Frontera' Lewis and Vyv Davies grabbing two apiece as reward for their contribution to the match. Others came from talented youth centre Mark Williams and winger Huw Purser.
Phil Williams landed five conversions and all St Clears could muster in response was an unconverted try by skipper Robert Holt from his berth at second row, giving the Scarlets the divisional trophy so that they could relax a little before their final match at Swansea Uplands.
