DEAR EDITOR, - My husband's grandmother, Gladys Bowen, born at Orange Gardens, Pembroke, in 1891, was sent from Pembroke to live in Maesteg at a very young age.
Her mother, Sarah Bowen (nee Jones) died aged 21 and her father was in the Royal Artillery. I would like to find out why she was sent to Glamorgan and who she was sent to in Glamorgan.
I would like to make contact with any descendants of Sarah Bowen's (nee Jones) family who may still be living around Pembroke. In the 1891 Census, their address was 80 Owen Street, Pembroke.
Her parents were Isaac and Martha Jones and her sisters and brothers were Eleanor, Beatrice, William, Margaret, Michael, Osborn and Georgena. There was also an uncle, Henry Lewis, widower, in the house.
