DEAR EDITOR, - Re Mrs Burdett's letter (April 27th), 'Will anyone listen to mast protesters'?
I sent details of some of our concerns about the microwave emissions from Tetra masts to Assembly Member, Mrs T. Dunwoody-Kneafsey, who assured me of her concerns.
I quote: "Unfortunately, planning is a quasi-judicial process that has been delegated to the local authority and, as such, I am unable to intervene in such matters. In certain cases, applications may be called into the Assembly, following which they would be considered by an independent planning inspector and then by the planning decision committee."
It would appear, therefore, that we have to protest to the independent planning inspector and/or the planning decision committee, as our Assembly Member, while offering 'wholehearted support', would not have powers to affect the decisions to be made.
In the Gower area, appeals against three masts unanimously opposed by the electorate and their elected representatives were refused by the independent planning inspector.
Those concerned about the effects of Tetra mast emissions, particularly to children, must make their objections loud and clear, since democratically-elected representatives were unable to affect the decision of the planning decision committee. Who will listen to us?
MRS EILEEN GOODALL 91 Uzmaston Road, Haverfordwest.
