County cricket Division two:

Haverfordwest 2nds (101 for 8) drew with Hook (163 for 7)

The match between Haverfordwest and Hook petered out into something of a tame draw.

Hook were asked to bat first and reached 163 for 7 before The Town stiffs responded with a sedate 101.

They found Jonathan Palmer, Matthew Holder and Jamie Phelps a little too sharp for them.

The Hook total owed much to a solid 53 (six fours) from opener Brennan Lay and 38 not out from David Petrie, batting at No 8, including five boundaries.

Jonathan Morgan confirmed his promise by bowling the ebullient Jamie Phelps and also shifting Lay in his second spell, while veteran bowler Micky Phillips had figures of 3 for 7 after getting rid of Keith James, Phil Griffiths and Palmer in quick succession.

A total of 29 extras boosted Hook to their final tally and it assumed even greater proportions as The Town stumbled.

Palmer (2 for 18) and Holder (3 for 20) both had maidens aplenty in their 12-over stints.

But Steve Price (21), James Marchant (15), Steve James (16) and his son Julian (15) all batted grittily for Haverfordwest and they denied Hook but conceded the bulk of the draw points.
