DEAR EDITOR, - The General Election is now over for the next five years, and its time to respond to Michael Williams' scurrilous allegations about David Morris, the Conservative Party candidate in Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, not paying his council tax.
David has been on the electoral register of this constituency for over 12 months and has voted here in the council, European and recent General Election. He has leased the flat above the Conservative Club for all of this time and the rent paid includes a contribution towards the business rates that the club pay to Pembrokeshire County Council. We have all the documents to prove this.
There is a plaque at the Conservative Club, commemorating the opening in 1957, and on all the records from that date, the club's address is clearly stated as Hazelwell, Southcliffe Gardens, even though the electoral register now shows the club address as St Florence Parade.
As Michael Williams has lived in Tenby for many years I am surprised that he did not bother to check the accuracy of the statements before making them.
Fortunately, very few voters believed such fictitious allegations, as was shown by the size of the Conservative vote in the ballot box.
David Morris and his team were proud to fight a clean campaign in spite of the malevolence of some of the other parties.
