NINE people from Broad Haven Methodist church have raised £5,500 to help build a school for gypsy children in Romania.
This will be the third time the group has been to Salsig in Romania, where they have been involved in a project to build a multi-purpose building incorporating school rooms, medical centre, church and community centre.
Broad Haven Methodist church raised the money in various ways, including murder mystery dinners.
The group will be travelling to Romania for a week to work on the project. Sally Inglesant said: "We are trying to build up a relationship with the people out there, from whom we can learn a lot.
"Last year we built up the walls and this year we hope to begin putting up the roof. We hope the project will be finished by 2008.
"These children predominantly live in mud huts and lean-tos. We look forward to the time when we can see the young people given the facilities where they can learn and intermingle. We can then break the poverty cycle by giving these disadvantaged children opportunities to get work and employment.
"It will be the third time we have visited Salsig to carry on work for the school and it is really a life-changing experience."
The people going are Phil Vicery, Sally Inglesant, Ifor Williams, Baptist minister, Penny Williams, Peter Jenkins, Dee and Gareth Mallon, Diana Miller and Charlotte Mull. To find out more about taking part or making donations, contact Phil or Maggie on 01437 711042.
