DEAR EDITOR, - Further to your front page article of May 4th 'Gun Horror for Schoolboy', I am writing to update you on our findings from the investigation into the incident.
A year ten student has responsibly come forward to admit that he was throwing stones in the area. He threw one high into the trees, but it unfortunately struck a branch and fell, hitting a student on the side of the head. This account is confirmed by a witness description from a year 11 girl.
The action of the boy in throwing the stone was foolish and dangerous and he is to be punished in line with the school's discipline policy. However, it was not an intentional wounding.
I am sure your readers will be reassured that we do not have a gunman on the loose on school grounds, and heartened by the fact that young people are prepared to own up when they have done wrong.
