DEAR EDITOR, - It was with considerable pride that I read in your May 18th edition a letter from L. Breese of Hook.
He brought to the attention of your readers that, although quite rightly, the recent celebrations of the Victory in Europe were well deserved, it is sometimes forgotten that our three armed forces were still being killed and tortured by one of the most barbaric forces in history, the Japanese.
Had the two atomic bombs not been dropped on Japan, many more of us would have perished.
The Burma campaign was the longest one in World War Two and the 14th Army was referred to by the British Press as the 'Forgotten Army'.
When Mountbatten took over as Supremo and visited his troops, he told them 'you will never be forgotten again'.
Don't let August 15th pass unnoticed this year - there are very few of these veterans around now to celebrate THE end of World War Two.
