DEAR EDITOR, - I read your item last week giving the new 0845 number for non-urgent calls to the police for use instead of calling the 43 local police stations.

This move seems to take the police force one more step further away from the public they serve. Will we have to press 1 for non-urgent burglary, press 2 to report a lost cat etc or simply be held in a queue?

How long before all calls are answered from a call centre in Karachi?

The public are entitled to some greater explanation than a press release in the weekly newspaper.
