A 63-YEAR-OLD former Pembroke Dock pipefitter, whose conviction for killing his daughter was overturned, will not face a retrial.

Arthur Carr, from Ross-on-Wye, was cleared of murdering Gillian Carr in May 2003, but he was found guilty of manslaughter.

That conviction was quashed in January of this year, after it emerged some jurors knew Carr was facing other charges.

Carr was jailed for eight years last month at Birmingham Crown Court, after pleading guilty to four counts of raping a teenage girl in the mid-1970s.

A Court of Appeal official told the Press Association: "The court is not going to be pursuing a (manslaughter) retrial given that the applicant was sentenced on other charges."

Gillian, who was aged between seven and nine when she disappeared in the mid-1970s, has never been found.

West Mercia Police said they were disappointed with the outcome of the manslaughter appeal.

"The case will remain open and if we receive any new information on Gillian or her disappearance then clearly this will be followed up," said a statement.
