Three men from west Wales were warned by a judge today they could go to jail after they admitted using threatening words or behaviour.

Lee Thomas, aged 29, of Tenby Court, Monkton, David Scourfield, also 29, of The Caravan, Kingmoor Common, Kilgetty, and Adam Lovell, 19, of Penyfan Road, Llanelli, appeared at Swansea crown court for a plea and case management hearing.

They admitted using threatening words or behaviour towards Robert George Smith on July 16th.

Thomas and Scourfield denied assaulting Mr Smith and Scourfield denied stealing a knife from him.

Janet Gedrych, prosecuting, said the pleas were acceptable, partly because Mr Smith was an alcoholic and it would be difficult to hold a trial if the prosecution had to rely on his evidence.

She said there was evidence that at least one of the defendants brandished a knife.

Judge Keith Thomas said the defendants would be sentenced on the basis of a joint enterprise and that one of them had a knife, even though the prosecution could not prove which one.

He described the incident as "unpleasant."

He said he noted that, at the time, Scourfield was on bail for possessing a bladed article in a public place.

Judge Thomas said the defendants had gone to Mr Smith's caravan on the afternoon of July 16th and returned in the early hours of the following day.

Sentencing was adjourned for a probation officer to prepare reports into the defendants' backgrounds.

They were granted bail meanwhile.
