Scores of people took to their bikes recently for a special taster day ride.

The ‘wheely good try-out’ session was organised as part of the BikeAbility project, which gives people of all abilities the opportunity to cycle. Up to 50 people turned up at the Withybush showground in Haverfordwest, to use the range of specially designed machines on offer.

Among them was ‘Stigio’, a test driver supplied by PW Motors.

“We were delighted with the response which shows that there is a demand for this kind of project in Pembrokeshire,” said Councillor Huw George, cabinet member for children and young people.

“We would like to see all people, whatever their abilities, enjoy the pleasures and health benefits of cycling and under this scheme everyone can have a go,” he added.

BikeAbility Wales provides everyone with the opportunity to ride a bike, by offering a variety of specially designed machines —including handcycles, trikes, quadcycles, tandems and wheelchair bikes.

First set up in Swansea some years ago, the scheme’s organisers now hope to expand into Pembrokeshire.

The taster day was organised by Pembrokeshire County Council and Pembrokeshire Greenways, funded by Health Challenge Pembrokeshire. It followed a successful try-out session in December, with further taster days planned.
