Cooks and chefs are sharpening up their knives as they cawl on the public to judge a village’s top culinary battle on Saturday.
The Cawl Cooking Championships of the World... and Elsewhere will be fought out in the heart of Saundersfoot, where ten local eating establishments are bidding for the title.
The contest is judged on the taste test of visitors, who pay £4 for a commemorative cawl bowl which they can then fill up for free before casting their vote.
The cawl trail, which runs between 11am and 3pm, is one of the highlights of the Saundersfoot St David’s Day Food and Craft Festival, which is all set to welcome thousands of people into the village over the weekend.
“Our festival is a great cause for celebration,” said Andrew Evans, chairman of the organisers, Saunders-foot Chamber for Tourism.
“Not only does it mark the national day of Wales’ patron saint and showcases some of the best Pembrokeshire produce, but it also gives a welcome pre-Easter boost to local trade.”
The festival’s heated harbourside marquee will be open from 10am to 8pm today (Saturday) and 10am to 4pm on Sunday, with more than 30 stalls; cookery demonstrations and talks by Angela Gray and Anthony Evans, while roving entertainers The Courgettes will be adding a touch of comedy mayhem to the mix.
