A Milford Haven business man who drank two pints while waiting for his wife to finish work later caused a road collision on the Cleddau Bridge, a court heard yesterday (Tuesday).

Christopher Chamberlain, of 15 Elidyr Park, pleaded guilty to a charge of drink driving at Haverfordwest magistrates court.

Prosecutor Ellie Morgan described how police were called to the bridge, following an accident involving four vehicles on Thursday, January 28th .

An officer spoke to Chamberlain, and after noting alcohol on his breath, asked him to take a roadside breath test.

“The defendant said he knew he’d be over the limit because he’d drank two pints in the Bush,” said Ms Morgan.

Chamberlain subsequently delivered a reading of 56 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

“He made a full admission during police interview and took responsibility for the accident.”

Chamberlain, who defended himself, said: “It was stupid of me.

“I had gone to pick my wife up from work and she was late, so while I was waiting I nipped into the pub next door.

“I just wasn’t thinking.”

The 26-year-old added he had recently set up his own renovations company, something that would be jeopardised by losing his licence.

Chamberlain was ordered to pay £400 in fines and costs, and had his licence revoked for 12 months. He was however, offered the clearway course that would see his ban reduced.
