The community play area in Hubberston is set to be improved even further after Pembrokeshire County Council pledged £20,000 to the project.
At a council cabinet meeting last Monday, members voted unanimously in favour of passing a proposal by Dr Steven Jones, the authority’s director of development, to give £20,000 towards work on the site.
Back in September, town councillor Mark Hawkins submitted an application for funding to the council on behalf of the Hubberston Community Association. Cllr Hawkins, who has been instrumental in the play area’s development since it was established seven years ago, said all the funding was now in place for improvements to be made.
“It’s a worthwhile project and is one of the best play areas in Pembrokeshire,” he said.
“It’s good for the community and is well supported. It’s not just something for the people of Hubberston anymore, but for everyone in the area.”
Cllr Hawkins praised local youngsters for keeping the equipment in good condition, and said the play area had helped drastically reduce anti social behaviour in Hubberston.
“It’s allowed us to develop and I have to thank Pembrokeshire county council for backing us,” he said.
“We really appreciate their support and will make sure it is money well spent for them.”
The play area is now set to add a spiders web, cone climber and adventure trail to the site. The funding will also be used to secure fencing around the area and for landscaping and ground works.
Cllr Hawkins said he was already in negotiations with the relevant building company about constructing the new equipment, and said he expected work to be underway by the end of March.
