A sheep that was rescued after being dumped on mudflats near Llanreath, Pembroke Dock has had to be put down.
Dyfed-Powys Police are appealing for any information regarding the incident.
Police say a white box-type van was seen to pull up near Beach Road, Llanreath, on Thursday afternoon. A man then chased the sheep onto the mud flats.
A member of the public, police and coastguards rescued the sheep before the tide came in. The animal was taken to a local vets but was so emaciated it had to be humanely killed . The RSPCA has been informed.
Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact PC Wells at Pembroke Dock Police Station on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
