Employees at Chevron’s Pembroke refinery have elected which charities they would like to support, as part of Chevron’s community engagement programme for 2010.
Two votes were given to each employee, one for a Pembrokeshire charity and one for a national charity with a local presence. The Paul Satori Foundation was picked as the Pembrokeshire charity, while Macmillan Cancer Support was chosen as the national charity. A programme of support for these charities will be drawn up for 2010.
Lorna Johns from the Paul Satori Foundation said: “We are further developing our service to increase the level of care we provide and we have to raise around £600,000 every year; every bit of fundraising means so much to us.”
Katherine Lowery, Macmillan Cancer Support fundraising manager, said: “The work we do in providing emotional, clinical and financial support to people living with cancer and their families is essential and the support we receive from Chevron in the Pembrokeshire and greater area will help us to continue this.”
Jane James, policy, government and public affairs manager at Chevron’s refinery, said: “We felt we would like our employees to tell us which two charities they would like us to help. It’s their community and we are delighted to hear which charities they have chosen for 2010.
“The refinery has been a long-standing supporter of local charities and that will continue. The support we are planning for these two charities will sit alongside our community engagement programme and will not replace it.”
