A contact centre assistant at Pembrokeshire County Council is flying in the face of fear in aid of the Haiti earthquake appeal.

Roger Jenkins, of Haverfordwest, will be literally taking the plunge when he throws himself out of an aeroplane at 12,000 feet in April.

Roger’s aim is to raise as much money as possible to help the relief fund.

“We’ve all been moved by the images from Haiti,” he said. “I want to raise a worthwhile sum, several thousand pounds if possible.” The skydive package was donated by his colleague Donna Thomas, who won the prize in a raffle, in response to a request for fundraising ideas from customer contact manager Michael Henderson.

Seven members of the contact centre team volunteered to do the sponsored jump, and Roger was delighted that his name was drawn.

Mr Henderson added: “The contact centre regularly raises money for charity. We have raised more than £1,000 in the last year alone. “We were all appalled at what happened in Haiti and felt that we should do something that bit extra to help.” Roger will be taking part in a tandem jump organised by Skydive Swansea at Swansea Airport on April 10th. All the money collected will go to the emergency appeal.

Roger, who has already collected £500 in sponsorship from colleagues in the North Wing of County Hall, will be cheered on by his family and colleagues in the contact centre.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” he said.

If you’d like to sponsor Roger’s skydive, ring the contact centre on 01437 764551 or donate at any of the customer service centres.
