A Tenby car park attendant has been named as an unsung hero by Pembrokeshire County Council in its anuual awards.
Barbara Powrie was nominated by Joan Webb, 84, of Saundersfoot, who fell and injured herself in a Teny car park last year.
Ms Powrie took Ms Webb to Tenby Hospital, on to Withybush Hospital and stayed with her for several hours before driving Ms Webb home when she had been treated.
Ms Webb said: “I don’t know what I would have done had she not been with me.
“I cannot thank nor praise her enough for her compassion and kindness, particularly, as I understand she receives no overtime pay for such work.”
Now in its sixth year, the Unsung Hero award is presented to an individual council employee who has demonstrated extraordinary commitment in the delivery of first class customer service.
Mrs Powrie was presented with a framed certificate and a Pembrokeshire Produce Direct hamper from David Thomas, the council’s head of marketing and communications.
There were three runners-up who were all highly commended.
They were Pembroke street cleaner Andrew Whitacker, toilet cleaner Bill O’Leary and Angela Malkin who works in the council’s hostel for homeless people in Pembroke.
