A sheep that was dumped in mudflats near Llanreath was rescued in a multi-agency mission this afternoon (Thursday).
A member of the public saw the sheep being ejected from a van and contacted the police.
With the tide was quickly coming in, and the animal stuck in the mud, police asked for coastguard assistance. St Govans and Castle Martin teams were dispatched to the scene. The RSPCA was also informed of the situation.
Before emergency services arrived at the mudflats, a man who lived nearby had seen the sheep's predicament, donned a dive suit and gone out onto the mudflats to rescue the beleaguered bleater.
He then took the sheep back to his house and contacted a vet. A police spokesman confirmed that the animal had been taken to a vet but was unable to comment on its condition.
