A surfer was airlifted to hospital on Saturday morning after being swept away by the tide off Newgale beach.
A spokesman for St Davids RNLI said both the all-weather and inshore lifeboats were launched just after 10am, after a member of the public reported seeing a surfer in difficulties.
Neither lifeboat could locate the victim but a helicopter from RAF Chivenor arrived and spotted the surfer in a cave. Due to the rough sea conditions, crews decided the best way to evacuate the casualty was by using the helicopter and he was airlifted to Withybush Hospital.
The man was treated for hip injuries, thought to have been sustained when he collided with rocks.
