A new Unsung Heroes campaign has been launched with the help of the Milford Haven sea cadet unit.
The campaign, aired on Radio Pembrokeshire and sponsored by Murco, aims to raise the profile of extra-curricular youth groups and sports clubs across the county — and in particular the parents and volunteers who give up their free time to run them.
Speaking at the campaign launch last week at the Milford Haven sea cadets headquarters, commanding officer Will Elliott said: “It gives us the opportunity to promote our organisation and we would hope not to only increase our membership but our number of volunteers too.”
Store manager Will became a cadet when he was ten and, now aged 22, volunteers at the unit two nights a week.
“If it hadn’t been for the volunteers who helped when I joined, I wouldn’t have had the opportunities that I have experienced. I’m now in a position to give something back,” he said.
Nicola Beckerleg of Murco said the Milford Haven refinery is keen to hear from extra curricular youth group activities which would like to be involved.
Every month, Radio Pembrokeshire will interview the children and volunteers of the chosen group.
