Haverfordwest (formerly of Narberth)

The funeral of Margaret Cynthia Stock, of 148 Haven Road, Haverfordwest, took place on December 30th. Cynthia died at her home on December 23rd.

Cynthia, who was 71, was the wife of Councillor Peter Stock, and was mayoress of Haverfordwest, as well as being first lady when her husband was appointed chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council and the former Preseli District Council.

Cynthia was born and brought up in Narberth and was the youngest of five girls. She was the organist in the Baptist Chapel, in Narberth, for some years. She worked at Whitland Dairy before marrying Peter and was then employed as a clerk at Weslec, until she retired in 2003.

While she took her civil duties seriously, she was essentially a homemaker, never happier than being surrounded by her family.

Cynthia and Peter would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on January 30th this year.

She leaves to mourn: Peter (husband); Julie and Tim Brock, Jan and Andy Morgan and Sue and Steve Beveridge (daughters and sons-in-law); Richard, Lisa, Jonathan, Andrew, Sarah, Matthew and Rebecca (grandchildren); Eluned and David Vaughan (sister and brother-in-law); May Griffiths (sister); nephews, nieces and cousins, Colin and John Banbury and their families.

During the service, Jessica Cale sang one of Cynthia’s favourite songs. The service was led by Canon Geoffrey Gwyther, who also officiated at Parc Gwyn Crematorium. He was assisted by Canon Derek Evans, Rev Nicholas Cale and Canon John Davies.

The bearers were her four grandsons.

Milford Haven

The funeral took place on January 7th of Rose Rolstone, of Torestin Care Home, Tiers Cross, and formerly of 20 Eastleigh Drive, Milford Haven. She was 88.

Rose was born and brought up in Swansea, but her father Dick Williams was a Haverfordwest man. After leaving school, she came to Haverfordwest to work at the County Offices. There she met John Rolstone and they married during the war. Moving to be close to John’s home ports during his postings in the Royal Navy, she endured the Plymouth Blitz and then moved to the east coast where she worked on Parkstone Quay. After the war they came back to Milford Haven.

While bringing up a family and helping to care for her father-in-law, mother-in-law and later her own mother, Rose was very involved in the community. She was instrumental in getting the family planning clinic started in Haverfordwest in the early 1950s. She was made a magistrate in 1955 at the age of 33, and went on to be chairman of the juvenile bench and then chairman of the Milford Haven bench.

Despite fracturing her skull in 1984, Rose recovered and continued serving as a magistrate until 1991. With Dorothy Millar she set up the Haven Club, and was a founder member of the Friends of Havenhurst. She was chairman of the Old People’s Welfare Committee, the Milford Haven Good Neighbourhood Committee and the Hamilton House management advisory committee. She received invitations to garden parties at Blenheim Palace and Buckingham Palace in the early 1970s and a civic award in 1991.

Rose worked at the Mine Depot in Milford Haven, and following her retirement in 1977 joined the civil service retirement fellowship. She continued an active interest in gardening well into her 80s and was a keen needlewoman.

Rose was involved with the Townwomen’s Guild in Milford Haven and more recently, the Haverfordwest branch. Rose looked after her husband John towards the end of his life. She then joined the family-like atmosphere of Brodie Wing at Torestin.

Rose leaves to mourn: her son and daughter-in-law David and Ginger; her daughter and son-in-law Sue and Pete; her niece Yvonne; and two great-nephews Simon and James. As well as her husband, her sister and two brothers predeceased her.

The service at Parc Gwyn was led by Rev Martyn Evans. Rose’s daughter, Sue Rolstone, gave a tribute.

There were family flowers only, but donations may be made to the Wales Air Ambulance, Ty Elusen, Tawe Business Park, Phoenix Way, Swansea, SA7 9LA.

Mr S. John

Milford Haven

The death of Stuart John, of Priory Lodge Close, Milford Haven, occurred at Withybush Hospital on December 26th. He was 65.

As a native of Haverfordwest, he worked for more than 20 years with Crown House Engineering as a chargehand, travelling to various parts of the country, and also worked for many years at various refineries.

He retired due to ill health last October, while working for SES Electrical.

He played for Haverfordwest and Pembrokeshire rugby as a youth. He maintained his love of rugby, supporting Wales whenever he could. He also loved gardening and walking his dogs.

Principal mourners and family left to mourn are: Averil Lilian John (wife); Ian, Christopher and Kevin John (sons); Melanie John, Amy Wareham (daughters-in-law); Corrine, Kearon, Connor (grandchildren).

Mr A. A. Tamplin

Haverfordwest

Following a short illness, Albert Anthony Tamplin died at Torestin Nursing Home, Tiers Cross, on December 25th. He was 86.

Bert was a strong, kind, intelligent man who was well-liked and respected by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his wife Babs in 1985.

Bert was born and brought up in Newport, Monmouthshire. It was there that he met and married Babs. He joined the army and they moved to Kent, where all the children were born. In 1959 they moved to Pembrokeshire, where he was employed at local oil refineries until his retirement. Bert was a very fit man, he enjoyed gardening, walking, was an avid reader and loved music.

Bert loved to travel and when he was in his 70s, he spent several holidays in Australia, where his son Tony lives.

Mr Tamplin leaves to mourn five daughters: Shirley Jenkins, Suzanne Thomas, Rosemarie Rimmer, Barbara Scale and June Boswell, and one son, Tony.

A family service was held at home, followed by a service in Narberth.

Mr Tamplin also leaves to mourn 17 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son. The service at the house and at Narberth were carried out by Canon Geoffrey Gwyther.

Mr T. G. John

Pembroke Dock

Tommy John, of St Teilo’s Road, Pembroke Dock, died at The University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, on December 28th, after a short illness. He was 75.

A native of Swansea, he came to Pembroke Dock while in the Welsh Regiment and met and married Glenys in 1956.

A rigger and steel erector, Tom worked on major contacts all over Britain but was always keen to return to Pembroke Dock.

Tom retired in 1999 and he and Glenys enjoyed many holidays in Benidorm. Tom was a proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

St John’s Church was filled to capacity for the service, led by Rev Nigel Thomas, who also officiated at Llanion cemetery.

The bearers were: Gary John (grandson), Shaun Donohoe (granddaughter’s husband) and Robert John (granddaughter’s partner), Lee Rigby, Stephen Rigby and Graham Benson (nephews).

The principal mourners are his wife, Glenys John, who due to ill health was unable to attend; Denise and Martin (daughter and son-in-law); Michael and Yvonne (son and daughter-in-law); David and Anna (son and partner); Laura, Emily, Thomas, Shelly, Lisa, Gary, Carl, Gemma, Ross, Katie and Kimberley (grandchildren); 11 great-grandchildren; Margaret and Ivor (sister and brother) and other family and friends too numerous to mention.

There were family flowers only, donations for St Non’s ward, Withybush Hospital, can be sent to John Roberts, 51 Bush Street, Pembroke Dock.

Mr G. Sutton

St Ishmaels

Graham Sutton, of St Ishmaels, died at Withybush Hospital on December 17th, aged 74.

Graham attended St Ishmaels primary school and Milford Central secondary school, and then served his apprenticeship with Phelps and Owens as a bricklayer. For much of his working life he was self-employed as a successful building contractor.

He was a founder member of St Ishmaels Sports Club and played a large part in the construction of the original club where he enjoyed socialising and playing darts.

He was keen motorcyclist in his younger days and dedicated a lot of his spare time to taking his sons motorcross racing. Travelling around the country, they made many friends in pursuit of the sport.

In later life he enjoyed a game of golf and was devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife Thelma in 1991.

The funeral took place at Parc Gwyn on December 22nd, followed by interment at St Ishmaels Cemetery.

The principal mourners are: Tim and Jayne (son and daughter-in-law); Karl and Ellen (son and daughter-in-law); Rebecca, Andrew and Sarah-Jane (grandchildren), together with many family and friends.

The bearers were Simon Llewellyn, Andrew Jamieson, Steve Thomas and Justin Scale (friends).

The service at Parc Gwyn was officiated by Rev Martin Evans.

Ms A. Taylor

HAKIN

Alison Taylor died at her home in St Lawrence Avenue, Hakin, on December 26th She was 47.

Originally from Hakin, Alison started her working life in R. G. Lewis estate agents, the Halifax estate agents, and from there went to work in the human resources department at Withybush Hospital. She retired due to ill health in 2006 while working as a PA to a consultant.

She loved shopping, reading and being with her family and friends.

Left to mourn are: Louise (daughter); Robert (son); Betty and Vic Welham (mother and father); Angela, Julie, Judith, Debbie and Jenny (sisters); Paul, David, John, Conway and Matt (brothers-in-law); Darren and Denise, Shaun and Billie, Anne, Christopher and Laura, Anna and Ross, Rebecca (nephews and nieces); Val and Cliff (auntie and partner); plus numerous other aunties, uncles, cousins and friends too numerous to mention.

The funeral service was held at Parc Gwyn and was led by Paul Bartlett.

The bearers at the house were: Shaun Mills, Darren Mills, Christopher Scoble, John Floyd and at the crematorium: Angela, Julie, Judith and Jenny (sisters).
