A Fishguard man has had his driving licence revoked after providing a urine sample that was just one millilitre over the legal alcohol limit.
Anthony Duggan, of 3 Tremygarn, Fishguard, pleaded guilty to the charge of drink driving at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Ellie Morgan described how police stopped a car on Holyland Road in Pembroke at around 2.10am on November 14th.
"The car was exceeding the 30 mph speed limit," said Ms Morgan.
"Police noticed the defendant smelled of alcohol and when asked if he'd been drinking, he said he'd had a few."
She said Duggan, aged 19, then provided a positive breath test but given the relatively low reading, he was given the chance to provide an alternative sample back at the police station.
"At around 3.50am, he gave a sample that showed 108 millilitres of alcohol in 100 millilitres of urine.
"The legal limit is 107 millilitres."
Defence lawyer James Subbiani said it would have been impossible for his client to have had a lower reading and appear in court.
"He had been on a night out with his girlfriend who lives in Pembroke," he said.
"He had always intended to drive and only drank three pints during the course of the evening."
Mr Subbiani added that Duggan was currently working in Salisbury, and a driving ban would mean he could no longer come home at weekends to visit his family and girlfriend.
Duggan was disqualified from driving for a year and ordered to pay £250 in fines and court costs. He was, however, offered the Clearway course that would reduce his ban to nine months.
