The parents of former Pembrokeshire schoolboy, Corporal Nick Webster-Smith, have been presented with the Elizabeth Cross by the Princess Royal.
The medal is given to relatives of forces personnel killed on active service, and was received by Richard and Jacqueline Webster-Smith at Queen Elizabeth High School in Carmarthen.
Nick, aged 24, was serving with the Royal Military Police in Afghanistan last November when he was one of five soldiers killed by a rogue Afghan policeman they had been mentoring.
Before moving to Saundersfoot with his family - who now live in Brackley, Northamptonshire - Nick was a pupil at the school in Carmarthen.
Along with the Elizabeth Cross- a sterling silver emblem in the shape of a cross over a wreath and its miniature - the princess also presented Mr and Mrs Webster-Smith with a memorial scross signed by the Queen.
The princess told the couple: "On behalf of Her Majesty, I am honoured to be able to present you with this Elizabeth Cross."
