The Western Telegraph has a new editor with the appointment of Holly Robinson who comes to Pembrokeshire with a wealth of experience in local newspapers.

The 34-year-old, who took up journalism after reading law at university in London, has worked for Newsquest, the publisher of the Western Telegraph, for 11 years.

After graduating, she joined the Wiltshire Times in Trowbridge, as a trainee reporter, before taking on the roles of chief reporter and news editor.

She later spent four years as editor of Newsquest’s Bridport and Lyme Regis News in Dorset, before joining the Bucks Free Press series in High Wycombe as deputy editor.

Holly said the move came about as she was looking for a new challenge and welcomed the chance to live in a wonderful area, near the coast again, and closer to family in Wales.

She said: “I am really looking forward to working with everyone here and getting to the heart of the issues that matter to readers in Pembrokeshire.

“I hope to build on the good work that Fiona Phillips and her team have done so far and ensure the Western Telegraph continues to serve the community here, as it has for the last 156 years.”

Holly will also take over the editor’s role on the Milford Mercury.

Fiona, who has been editor of both papers for eight years, leaves to edit the Hereford Times.

She said: “I have had a long and happy association with the Western Telegraph and Milford Mercury and the past eight years while I have been editor have been the best.

“I have made new contacts and friends and seen the paper go from strength to strength.

“I will miss everyone that I have worked with, especially my current team — which is simply fantastic, but I know I am leaving the paper in the safe hands of new incumbent Holly Robinson.”

She added: “I hope her tenure in the editor’s chair is as fulfilling as mine has been.”

Holly takes up her role on Monday (February 1st).and can be contacted by e-mailing holly.robinson @westerntelegraph.co.uk or telephoning 01437 763133.
