A New Year's Eve reveller was punched to the floor and kicked in the face by a man he counted as a friend, a jury heard today (Monday).
Part of the alleged incident was caught on CCTV cameras inside the Three Mariners pub in the centre of Tenby.
Sean Meaney, aged 22, of Marshall Road, Monkton, Pembroke , denied unlawfully wounding Alfie Boswell on December 31st, 2008.
Creighton Harvey, prosecuting, told Swansea crown court the two men knew each other and shortly before midnight both were on the dancefloor.
Meaney, he said, suddenly thumped Mr Boswell in the face and "followed through" with two kicks to the head while he was on the floor.
The blows left Mr Boswell with a split lip and two lost teeth.
He was taken to Withybush hospital and then to Morriston hospital, Swansea, for specialist treatment.
Mr Harvey said Meaney did not deny hitting Mr Boswell but he claimed it had been in self defence and he denied kicking him.
"The issue is fairly straightforward," added Mr Harvey. The jury would have to decide if Meaney really feared he was about to be attacked.
Mr Boswell, known as Digger, said he did not want to give evidence in the case but was instructed to do so by Judge Peter Heywood.
"I have known him all my life and we are the best of friends now," he said.
Mr Boswell confirmed that Meaney had hit him in the face but said he was not sure who had kicked him.
Charlie Price, Mr Boswell's nephew, said he had seen his uncle on the floor and pushed Meaney, asking him what he had done.
The trial continues.
