Emergency rescue teams searched the Teifi on Saturday, after a capsized kayak was found on the river.
A member of the public contacted the coastguards at 10:24am reporting an upturned kayak drifting in the St Dogmaels area.
Penrhyn coastguard rescue team and Cardigan inshore lifeboat carried out a search of the river near Cardigan.
Two kayaks were discovered and recovered from the river. Niether looked as if it had been recently occupied.
Coastguards had not received any reports of missing or overdue kayakers and concluded that the kayaks had probably been washed downstream with the recent flood waters.
Both coastguards and lifeboat crew were then stood down.
