Wolfscastle residents are celebrating a U-turn on the siting of a new sign to highlight their Wales in Bloom success.

The community council asked Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies for help in getting a ‘winner of Wales in Bloom’ sign put up in the village.

After an initial refusal, the Welsh Assembly’s Trunk Roads Agency changed its mind, following lobbying from Mr Davies.

He said: “We were initially told that it was not ‘considered appropriate’ to erect the sign as it was unnecessary and because the Assembly did not wish to increase sign clutter.

“I agree that roadside clutter needs to be kept to a minimum but the community was only asking for a small sign to be put up underneath their existing welcome to Wolfscastle sign.”

Mr Davies wrote to the Trunk Roads Agency (TRA) and: “Lo and behold, the TRA then wrote to say the Assembly had reviewed the situation and decided to allow the sign to be put up after all.

“I am glad that common sense has prevailed and that the community will now get the chance to advertise its achievement.”

Community council clerk, Rev Geoffrey Eynon said: “We have won Wales in Bloom five times now and we wanted to recognise that fact. We are also very proud to be finalists in Britain in Bloom next year.”
