A popular teacher died in a ‘totally random’ accident an inquest found last week.

Fflur Bedwyr, a religious education teacher originally from the Cardigan area, died in Cardiff last August after slipping off a pavement into the path of a bus.

The 34-year-old died at the roadside from head and chest injuries.

Cardiff coroner Mary Hassell recorded a verdict of accidental death.

The inquest heard bus driver Colin Havard was travelling at about 15mph.

He said: “All of a sudden there was a bang and the young lady had come off the road.”

The driver stopped the bus and called emergency services.

The inquest heard that Miss Bedwyr was fit and healthy and enjoyed skiing, played touch rugby and ran marathons.

Ms Hassell said: “I wish I could offer some kind of reason for this but I think it was totally random.”

Miss Bedwyr was the daughter of Mari Bedwyr Davies and the late Bedwyr Davies of St Dogmaels. She also left her sister Lowri, of Cardigan.

She was a former pupil at Cardigan Junior School and Ysgol Dyffryn Teifi, Llandysul.

She was the head of year nine at Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg, Barry.

Headteacher Dylan Jones said her death was a “great loss”.

He said: “She had a wonderful warm personality and was highly regarded by staff, pupils and parents.

“She made an immeasurable contribution to both the school and the pupils’ development. She will be greatly missed by all.”

Pupils have left tributes on a Facebook page dedicated to Miss Bedwyr.
