A St Davids man blamed jet lag and irregular sleeping patterns for being more than twice over the legal drink driving limit, a court heard this week.
John Fulker, of Lower Clegyr, St Davids Road, pleaded guilty at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday to a charge of drink driving.
Prosecutor Ellie Morgan said police were called to the A487 road outside St Davids to attend an overturned van at around 4pm on Sunday, December 13th.
"A man identified himself as the driver and he was speaking with slurred speech and smelt of alcohol," she said.
"After failing a breathalyser test, he was treated by hospital staff for a minor hand injury."
Ms Morgan said that upon being interviewed, Fulker admitted to having drank "six or seven" premium lagers and gin and tonic up until 5am of the day he drove.
In a pre-prepared statement, Fulker apologised to the court and said he couldn't understand his error.
"I would never intentionally put anyone else at risk."
He said he could only put the mistake down to the fact he had recently returned from a year's travelling in Australia, and that his jet lag and irregular sleeping patterns had affected his judgement.
"My chosen career path will now be difficult to follow because of this," he added.
Fulker, aged 26, had his licence revoked for 20 months and was ordered to pay £200 in court costs. He was however offered the clearway course that would see his ban reduced by five months.
