Over 20 new jobs will be created in Tenby when the town's new Tesco Express store opens its doors.

The shop, in the former Woolworths premises in Tudor Square, was due to open on Tuesday January 19th. However, the company has now announced it will open a week later, on the 26th.

The store will be open from 6am to 11pm, seven days a week and will stock over 2,500 products, including fresh, chilled and frozen goods, household items, newspapers and magazines, beers, wines and spirits and a small health and beauty range. It will also have a cash machine and a bakery.

Tesco has worked closely with the local Jobcentre Plus in the recruitment process and say that the majority of the store's 23 new staff come from the local area.

They are currently taking part in the Tesco training programme and store duty manager Dan Mills said: “I am delighted by the response to our recruitment drive. We recruited a great team of people and I am looking forward to working with them.”

Tesco is looking forward to 'playing an active role in the local community,' he added.

A local charity will receive a £500 donation at the official launch of the new store on Tuesday January 26th at 10.30am.
