The Met Office has issued a flash severe weather warning for Pembrokeshire, forecasting further snow overnight. Accumulations of two to five centimetres are expected in places, with ten centimetres possible over the hills.

Snow is expected to ease overnight and turn more generally to rain before clearing.

The public is advised to take extra care and refer to Traffic Wales for further advice on road conditions.

Strong winds, drifting and later show and sleet showers have caused chaos in the county today, with schools and roads closing and drifts causing problems elsewhere (see attached article).

The A478 Penblewin to Cardigan road still has drifting snow causing problems in places.

Elsewhere drifts are affecting the back road from Trecwn to Letterston and vehicles have been abandoned near Llanfair.

Pembrokeshire Coast National Parks Authority have been assisting with 4x4 vehicles to convey staff for Allied Healthcare, Corban Care and Croeso Care across the north of the county where travel has been particularly hazardous.

Refuse collections will be decided in the morning.

Schools have been asked to ring the county council’s contact centre from 7am tomorrow and advise whether or not they are open.
