Heavy snow is now falling in parts of north Pembrokeshire including in Boncath, Glandy Cross and Crymych.
The rest of the county is experiencing snow and sleet and the snow is starting to stick on the ground in places. This is forecast to continue until 9am tomorrow (Wednesday).
Drivers are warned to take particular care as road surface temperatures are forecast to remain at or just below freezing overnight, which may allow ice formation where salt has been washed off the road.
Several roads in the county have been closed due to adverse weather conditions.
The Haverfordwest to Cardigan road has been closed as it is blocked by snow drifting over the mountain top between Brynberian and New Inn, mainly where snow has been blown through gates onto the roadway.
The New Inn to Llanychaer road is impassable in places between New Inn & Morvil and some cars are abandoned in drifts.
There are reports of four to five foot drifts on the Crymych to Maenachlog Ddu road.
On the A487 Fishguard to Cardigan road and the A478 Penblewin to Cardigan road, drifting snow is causing problems in places.
John Davies, council leader has reported roads around Tegryn are particularly bad, even for JCB / Agricultural vehicles.
Vehicles have been trapped in snow drifts in Efailwen & Glandy Cross. A bus taking pupils from Pembrokeshire College this afternoon became stuck and was freed and escorted to safety by a council snow plough.
Extra snow ploughs and a snow blower are patrolling main routes in the Crymych area.
The Nolton to Newgale road is also closed, due to ice on steep hills.
Drivers are urged to proceed with caution between Tenby and Jameston, near Lydstep, and at Reynalton where trees are reported to have blown The council said that some gritters (with ploughs fitted) have been redeployed to patrol the trunk roads, and by 6 p.m. gritting lorries will be patrolling all the primary routes.
The patrolling, which will include ploughing and salting where necessary, will continue overnight until 9 a.m.
Several schools closed early today and clients at day centres were being sent home after lunch as a safety precaution.
Some social care clients,in Moylegrove, Maenclochog, Crymych and Tegryn, have not been visited today but all have been telephoned and there are no urgent issues at present.
One carer from Maenclochog is not able to leave village to service her calls tonight, but her calls have been covered by other staff.
Hermon Civic Amenity centre has been closed due to weather conditions. Whether or not refuse collection run tomorrow will be decided in the morning.
The council’s contact centre will be open at 07:00am tomorrow (Monday).
