New salt supplies delivered to Pembrokeshire yesterday (Monday) mean that the county council should be able to respond to requests for gritting and salting, a spokesman said today (Tuesday).
Reactive treatment will initially be prioritised to requests from the emergency services, but members of the public can contact the council’s contact centre on 01437 764551 to request road or footpath treatment.
"Because of the prolonged adverse weather conditions, salt usage has been higher than expected and we have been concentrating on the primary road network to date," said the spokesman.
"However, due to alternative salt supplies being sourced, we are now able to react to requests for treatment."
The council said it is is working hard to provide as safe a passage as possible for people who are using the roads.
However, it should not be assumed that a road has been salted and drivers are urged to ensure that they drive according to the road conditions.
The council’s emergency management team is continuing to co-ordinate multi-agency meetings to discuss the response to the weather conditions.
