Mid and West Wales AM Alun Davies has welcomed confirmation that hundreds of elderly and disabled residents in Pembrokeshire will benefit from extra help during the big freeze.
Sustained cold weather since Christmas means that a £25 cold weather payment will be automatically deposited into eligible residents' bank accounts from today (Monday).
The payment is triggered after seven consecutive days of cold weather, when temperatures fall to around freezing.
The first payment relates to the period between January 5th and 11th, with payments being automatically made into the bank accounts of those who are eligible from today (Monday).
The payment was £8.50 but has been increased by Westminster to £25.
“The cold weather payment gives those who need help most to heat their homes without worrying that they won’t be able to pay their fuel bills," said the Labour AM.
“It is important that during the cold weather, our older and most vulnerable residents keep themselves active and warm.
"If you or someone you know is concerned about keeping warm this winter, then give the Home Heat Helpline a ring on 0800 33 66 99.
“Fully trained advisors can provide information on social tariff measures, help with managing fuel debt and energy saving advice.”
