Milford Haven

The funeral took place at Scunthorpe Crematorium on December 18th of Jacqueline (Jackie) McNally, of Gelliswick Bay, Milford Haven. She died after a tragic accident on December 10th, at Lincoln Hospital, aged 67.

Jackie was born in Doncaster, but lived in Wakefield, Blackpool and Scunthorpe, as her parents, who were in the licensing trade, took over various public houses. She attended Ashby girls school, then took a hairdressing apprenticeship, while helping her parents in the pub in the evenings.

She then went to work on a farm, and in 1972 she met and married Brian.

Her daughter Samantha was born in 1973, followed by Rachel in 1975.

Jackie and Brian took the lease of the Yarborough Hotel in Gainsborough in 1977, and Jackie continued as a very successful landlady after Brian died in 1992.

In 1995, Jackie met Rob and together they moved to Milford Haven, married, and set up home in Gelliswick Bay. Jackie enjoyed many interests, including sketching, walking, bird watching and sugarcraft.

She was also interested in animal welfare, supporting several charities and occasionally working as a volunteer in the Greenacres animal welfare shop in Milford Haven.

However, her greatest joy was taking care of her adored grandchildren on their frequent visits from Gainsborough. Alexandra, Eleanor and Leah made Jackie’s life complete and the last few years were, in her own words, the happiest anyone could ever imagine.

The principal mourners are: Rob (husband); Samantha and Rachel (daughters) and Stephen and Jay (sons-in-law), together with dozens of relatives, friends and neighbours too numerous to mention.

There were family flowers only, with donations to one of Jackie’s favourite charities, Greenacres Animal Rescue.

The service was conducted by celebrant Sandra Walsh, and funeral arrangements were carried out by Clifford Bradley and Sons, of Gainsborough.

MR. H. MANNING

TREFGARN OWEN

Herber Manning, of Swn-y-Gwynt, Trefgarn Owen, died at Withybush hospital on December 3rd. He was 89.

Herber was born at Knaveston Farm, and on leaving Brawdy primary school in Trefgarn Owen, he served an apprenticeship as a carpenter.

At the outbreak of the Second World War, his skill was in great demand for building aerodromes and other wartime facilities in Pembrokeshire.

He was called up to the army in 1942 and served in Algeria and Italy before being demobbed in 1946.

In 1947 he married Doris, who predeceased him in 1994.

After his parents retired from farming at Knaveston, he left the carpentry trade and took over the running of the family farm.

A quiet and unassuming man, he was a deacon, trustee and faithful member of Trefgarn Owen chapel for many years.

When ill-health and age took their toll, he was cared for at Graylyns care home, Letterston, where he was visited by many friends and family.

More serious health problems came in 2008 and he was moved to Fairfield Nursing Home, Johnston.

The funeral was held at Trefgarn Owen chapel and cremation took place at Parc Gwyn on December 15th. The officiating minister was Rev Geoffrey Eynon, and the bearers were Eifion Davies, Brian Davies, Gareth James and Darren Stock.

Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: David and Pauline, Helen and Darren, Rachel, Gareth and Eve, Sarah and Jon, Iris and Lloyd.

There were no flowers by request, but donations for Diabetes UK can be sent to Mrs Iris Hughes, The Retreat, 19 Hermitage Grove, Haverfordwest.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

Mrs. G. J. Jones

Milford Haven

The death of Glenys Jane Jones, of Steynton Road, Milford Haven, occurred at Meadows care home, Johnston, on December 11th. She was 75.

She was a Post Office telephonist between 1949 and 1959 and then brought up her family, Janet and Sharon.

She later worked for Golatron, Dowty Seals and Gulf Oil as a telephonist and receptionist, but retired in 1980 to look after her grandchildren.

Her interests included her family for whom she also enjoyed knitting.

She enjoyed indoor and outdoor bowls and was a member of Milford Haven bowls club, where she played lead bowler and West Wales Ladies Bowling Association, winning many trophies.

In her former years, she enjoyed swimming, cycling and was a Baptist Sunday school teacher.

The funeral service was held at North Road Baptist Chapel, Milford Haven, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and then interment at Milford cemetery.

The service was led by Rev Paul Bartlett and the bearers were bowling club members, Malcolm Connah, Derek Mathias, Stuart Slade and Royce Howells.

The principal mourners and family left to mourn are: Bill (husband); Janet and Barrie Gale (daughter and son-in-law); Sharon Marjoram and George Menzies (daughter and partner); Robert and Sheryl Stow, Marc and Heidi Stow (grandsons and wives); Anna and Jamie Marjoran (granddaughter and grandson); Nicholas Gale and Fran (grandson and partner); Roxanne Gale (great-granddaughter); Jean and Derek Harding (sister and brother-in-law); Glenys Ptaszinski, Margaret Grant, Ruth and David Aldred, David and Bobbie Jones, Robert Jones, Lena Jones (sisters and brothers-in-law); nephews and nieces, friends and neighbours too numerous to mention.

Unable to attend were David and Bobbie Jones, Robert Jones and David Aldred.

There were family flowers only, with donations for Pembrokeshire Alzheimers Society, being sent to Suite 18, Cedar Court, Havens Head Business Park, Milford Haven.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Son, Milford Haven.

Mr J. Doyle

Milford Haven

The death of Jim Doyle, of Steynton Road, Milford Haven, occurred at Withybush hospital on December 9th. He was 81.

Originally from County Dublin, Ireland, he had lived in Wales for more than 60 years.

His main interest was his garden. Jim and his wife Jean transformed their garden into a perfect cottage garden over the past 27 years.

Until his illness, both attended mass regularly at St Francis Church.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Jean Doyle (wife); David and Shirley (son and daughter-in-law); Kathleen and John, Janet and William, Julie and Nick (daughters and sons-in-law); Paul and Jennie (stepson and wife); Lynne and Terry (stepdaughter and husband); 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; Pauline and Terry (sister and brother-in-law); Bill and Doreen, Christy and Carmel (brothers and sisters-in-law). Also Ellie, Kathleen (sisters) and Suzie (sister-in-law). Many nieces and nephews, including four who travelled from Northern Ireland.

The funeral was held at St Francis, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn and then interment at Milford cemetery.

The service was officiated by Father JJ and Jim’s six grandsons were the bearers.

There were family flowers only but donations in lieu can be made to St Francis RC Church, Priory Road, Milford Haven.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

Mr. M. P. Jenkins

Pembroke Dock

The death occurred of Melville Paul Jenkins, of Hamilton Close, Pennar, Pembroke Dock (formerly of Broadmoor, Kilgetty), on November 22nd.

He was originally from Cardiff and following a long family tradition, he worked as a railway engineer, and was a fitter and turner by trade.

He progressed to an aircraft engineer and worked with the General Electric aircraft engineer service in the engine rebuild section.

During his younger years, he was an excellent athlete, and represented his school at district level.

He also enjoyed football and rugby and especially golf. He was an active member of South Pembrokeshire golf club.

He was predeceased by his wife Julia Jenkins.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Tim, Damon and Peter (sons); Sylvia Jenkins (mother); David Jenkins (brother); Tracy, Emma and Sarah (daughters-in-law); Caitlin, Dafydd, Joshua and Cameron (grandchildren).

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and the bearers were Tim, Damon, Peter (sons) and David (brother).

Donations in lieu of flowers for the British Heart Foundation may be sent to E. C. Thomas and Son, Archways, Green Plains, Stepaside, Narberth SA67 8LT, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mrs. N. Harries

Ambleston

THE death of Norma Harries of Ambleston, occurred at Withybush hospital on November 26th. She was 74.

During her working life, she worked at Ivor Rowlands, Clarbeston Road, Wallis Woollen Mill and as a carer for many local people until her retirement.

Her interests were her home, family and the church.

She also enjoyed her many trips away with her friends at the Haverfordwest, civil service and B. R. bowling clubs.

She was a devoted member of St Mary’s Church, Ambleston and a faithful member of the mothers’ union.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Trevor Harries (husband); Hilary Harries (daughter); Gwen Hurlow (sister); Ivy and Mike Taylor (niece and husband); Bryan Morgan, Val Hughes, Astrid and Eifion Morgan, Eric and Lena Evans, David Morgan, Kyra Morgan, Zena and Williams Lewis (cousins); Dinah Perkins, Selwyn and Enid Jenkins (sisters-in-law and brother-in-law); Iris Phillips, Joan and Bernard James and Ceinwen Thomas (friends), along with family and friends too numerous to mention.

The funeral was held at St Mary’s Church, Ambleston, led by Rev David Rees and Canons Derek Evans and Euros Thomas, with apologies from Chancellor Gerwyn Morgan, Canon Geoffrey Gwyther and Rev William Owen. The organist was Ann James.

The bearers were Arwel Evans, Neil Jones, Monty Belton, Myrthyn Howells, Billy Jones, Alun Wills, Norman Brown and Nye Issac.

Unable to attend the funeral were: Gwen Hurlow; Ivy and Mike Taylor; David Morgan, Kyra Morgan, Zena and William Lewis; Joan James and Ceinwen Thomas.

Mrs. C. Goddard

Haverfordwest

The death occurred at Bush House nursing home, Pembroke, of Celia Goddard, on December 9th. She was 85.

Originally a native of Haverfordwest, she had worked in the county hospital.

Celia was predeceased by her husband Peter Goddard.

The principal mourners and family left to mourn are: Valerie and John (daughter and son-in-law); Robert and Vicky (grandchildren); Valerie Smith (sister); Maurice (brother-in-law); Lorraina and family (sister-in-law); Veronica, Nicola, Donna and Carol, Mel (nieces and nephews), along with many cousins and friends.

The funeral service was held at St Martin’s Church, Haverfordwest, led by Archdeacon J. Harvey.

The bearers were Maurice Smith, Robert Perrie (grandson), Adrian Brooks and David Banner.

Mrs. J. R. Keen

The funeral took place recently of Jennifer Ruth Keen (nee Lewis) in Rotherham, Yorkshire.

Jennie was the beloved wife of Kevin and mother of Dave, Ben and Sam She was the eldest daughter of Tom Lewis and the late Dorothy; step-daughter of Laura Lewis and sister to Hilary, Frances and Sarah.
