Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies is backing a bilingual campaign by Twf Penfro.

Mr Davies attended a special event organised by Twf Penfro at Haverfordwest’s Boots store recently. It aimed to promote bilingualism by offering support and advice to parents who want to raise their children to speak Welsh.

Twf’s Two Languages from Day One project is run by the Welsh Language Board.

Spokesman Meinir Jones said: “We work with young parents and expectant mothers, giving them information about the advantages of bilingualism and raising their children in a bilingual environment.”

Mr Davies, who was brought up bilingually and who is the shadow minister for the Welsh language, praised the scheme.

“For me, Welsh was always spoken when I was growing up and having that early bilingual start has helped me tremendously in life.

“Learning Welsh as a child also helps you to learn additional languages later on.

“Twf is a great scheme and especially helpful in supporting families with only one Welsh-speaking parent,” he said.
