Kicking off the first Nick Webster-Smith memorial football match over Christmas were some 30 former school and teammates of the 24-year-old Royal Military Policeman who was recently killed in Afghanistan.
Corporal Webster-Smith played soccer for both Tenby and Kilgetty while living in the area with his family, and the game was organised as a celebration of his life and his love of football.
A minute's applause was led by the Tenby and Kilgetty players on the Kilgetty pitch at the start of the game, which resulted in a 4-0 win for Tenby. A collection and a raffle raised £600, and a cheque for this amount has been sent to Nick's parents in Brackley, Northamptonshire, to support their chosen charities.
These are the Royal British Legion (Brackley branch), RMP Central Benevolent Fund, Army Dependents' Trust and The Special Care Baby Unit at Horton Hospital, Banbury.
Players and spectators enjoyed a buffet and get-together after the game, when the Tenby side was presented with the memorial shield donated by Scaffold 2000.
"It was a very successful day," said Kilgetty team member Tom Dennis, who organised the event with Andrew Prout. "It was great for all the boys to be together and be able to recall the happy times they spent with Nick."
