Popular comedian, actor and writer Griff Rhys Jones has invited friends from the screen and stage to his Pembrokeshire home this weekend in aid of a local youth charity.

A packed open weekend and gala performance begins today, Friday August 7th and runs until Sunday, to raise funds for Fishguard-based drop-in centre, Point.

Griff will open the doors of his 200 year-old Strumble Head farm Trehilyn and host a variety of entertainment and events.

Among those attending will be actor Tom Hollander, star of In the Loop, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Pride and Prejudice.

The hit film, In the Loop, will also be given a special screening, followed by a question and answer session with the star.

A play for voices, The last invasion of Britain, based on the historic Fishguard event which involved Trehilyn, has been written for the weekend.

There will also be music from Blatnova, walks, plus other guests to be announced. A charity gala night will be held tomorrow, Saturday August 8th.

All money raised will go towards Point.

Mr Rhys Jones said: “I’m very much in favour of what Point does. There is not enough for young people to do in west Wales.

“I’m sure we’ll get a lot of help from the kids themselves preparing for the day.”

One of the farm’s barns will be transformed into a 150 seat theatre, and another will become a gallery.

Other attractions during the weekend will include a showman’s wagon recently restored to its former glory, plus art exhibitions and stalls.

Mr Rhys Jones describes the project as a “labour of love.” He rents the properties out through the Under the Thatch organisation.

He is currently making the second series of A Pembrokeshire Farm, following the extensive restoration projects at Trehilyn, to be broadcast later this year He said: “The place is constantly used by people, visitors love coming here.”

His new series Rivers, to be screened on BBC1 this month, is a follow on from Mountain. He travels down Britain’s rivers and recently published a book on the subject, which he will be signing at Seaways bookshop.

Tickets for the event are available from Oriel Glan y Mor gallery, Seaways bookshop and Antur Insurance Services, Fishguard, and also online.
