Angry St Davids residents held a public protest outside County Hall this morning (Thursday) over the controversial decision to close the city’s swimming pool.
More than 30 members of the St Davids Community Pool Users Group gathered outside County Hall before the meeting of Pembrokeshire County Council.
"It’s a vital facility for the community," said group secretary Susan Preece.
"At the forefront of our mind is the safety of our children. We have had no drowning fatalities since the pool was built in the 1970s."
But protesters were soon to be disappointed. During the meeting cabinet member Rob Lewis said the council would press ahead with plans to build a new sports hall at the site.
‘The centre will be a huge asset to the school and city," he said.
"We have explored all avenues. It is time to put the issue to bed and look forward."
