Fire crews dealt with a spate of chimney fires in Pembrokeshire last night (Thursday).

At 9.59 crews from Fishguard were called to an incident in Wesley Place, Trecwn at 9.59pm. They dealt with the fire using chimney rods and a stirrup pump and were at the scene for around 45 minutes.

At 10.02 last night an appliance from Tenby was called to another chimney fire at White Well Farm, Penally. Firefighters used chimney rods and returned to station at 10.41pm.

A third minor chimney fire in Ashleigh cottage, Stackpole, was out by the time Pembroke Dock crews arrived at the scene. They inspected the premises and used a thermal imaging camera to check the fire was completely extinguished.

A spokesman for the fire service warned that chimney fires can be dangerous, as they can spread quickly into the roof space or floor cavity.

"They can endanger the lives of people in the house as well as causing extensive damage," he said.

"Our advice to people is to ensure that chimneys are swept regularly, at least once a year.
